Gentle Herbal Baby Soaps If you are new to making soap, please take time to read (Soapmaking Equipment and Instructions) Click to go to instructions. This will help you know the equipment needed to make your soap and how you can make this wonderful healthful soap for your family and friends. If you are in need of oils to make your first soap or would like to order our Soapmaking Kit, you can find them and many other supplies listed here on our site. (TLC's Soap and Sundries Making Supplies) A variation of this formula is below this one. The variation is using what I call "The Trinity of Lathering Oils" that I introduced for use on our soapmaking list. Coconut, Castor and Palm Kernel. Gentle Herbal Baby Soap 4 oz. Castor Oil 6 oz. Cocoa Butter 6 oz. Avocado 12 oz. Coconut Oil 20 oz. Tallow, Lard or Palm 32 oz. Olive Oil 2 oz. Natural Beeswax 10.50 oz. lye (about 8% superfatted) 26 oz. Distilled Water 3 Tbsp. of a mixture of these EO's Lavender and Rose Geranium or FO of your choice 3 Tbsp. of each of these herbs Chamomile Flowers, Calendula Whole or Petals and Lavender Buds. These are used to make the tea by adding them to the 26 oz of Distilled water and bringing it to a boil, taking it off the heat, allowing it to steep with the lid on for several hours or over night. Strain the herbs and squeeze out as much of the tea as you can. Replace any water lost by reweighing the tea and adding distilled water to it. If you wish to add some Goats Milk Powder to this, you can take away about 10 oz. of the water and add about 4 Tbsp. Powdered Goats Milk to it and then add to the oil and lye mixture in the beginning of the mix. If you wish to use Whole Milk, just use 10 oz. in place of 10 oz. of the water and warm it a bit to add to the oil and lye mixture in the beginning of the mix. 2 Tbsp. each Powdered, Chamomile Flowers, Calendula Petals and Lavender Petals and sift with a fine sift. (optional) The powdered herbs are added to the oils as they are warming and left in the mix. The Olive Oil is infused with 2 Tbsp. Chamomile Flowers 3 Tbsp. Calendula 3 Tbsp. Lavender Buds When you are finished infusing the oil, you will need to remember to replace the oil that you can not squeeze from the herbs. Instructions for making Infused Oils with Dried Herbs are here Making Herbal Soaps. Making the soap: Take 1/2 of the tea and dissolve the lye in it. While lye liquid is cooling, heat all the oils, including the infused Olive Oil, add Beeswax and melt. Cool oils to 110 and have lye liquid at room temp. Add lye liquid to oils slowly, stirring constantly. After adding lye liquid to oils and they are incorporated well, add the 12 oz of the tea that you have warmed to the same temp and stir. If you want to add the milk, just add it to the warmed tea and stir till it is all dissolved, then add to oil/lye mixture. At trace add the EO's or FO's or you can leave out the fragrances, I like it both ways. *NOTE: If making for an infant, it is always best to leave out the EO and FO. Just the soap is all that is needed. It does have a nice pleasant aroma without the scents added.
