Shaving Soap 2 If you are new to making soap, please take time to read ( Soapmaking Equipment and Instructions ) Click to go to instructions. This will help you know the equipment needed to make your soap and how you can make this wonderful healthful soap for your family and friends. If you are in need of oils to make your first soap or would like to order our Soapmaking Kit, you can find them and many other supplies listed here on our site. ( TLC's Soap and Sundries Making Supplies.) Formula Makes approx 15 lbs of finished soap 15 oz. Castor 15 oz. Palm Kernel 5 oz. Shea Butter 48 oz. Olive Oil 48 oz. Shortening 48 oz. Lard or Palm Oil 58 oz. Water or Water/Milk 23.50 oz Lye (approx. 5% superfatted) OR 24.25 oz Lye (approx. 2% superfatted) 1/2 to 1 Tbsp. of Bentonite Clay per lb of oils (Can add this at the beginning or the middle of the mixing so it is incorporated well) If you like to make this for handmilling which is what I am going to use it for, I am going to add a bit of mixed oils, Jojoba, Sweet Almond, Apricot Kernel, about 1 Tbsp. per lb of soap, to it when I mill it to bring the superfatting up. This is only when making it with the 1% superfatting. If making it with the higher superfatting I will use a bit of Jojoba, about 1 tsp. per lb of soap to help with softening the skin. Now if using this for CP shaving soap you can use the 5% superfatting level and if you want more of a good oils suspended in the mix, add 1 tsp. of a good oil, per lb of oils and liquid, adding at trace is fine.
